Youth Exergaming Programs in The Loft
The Y is dedicated to Youth Development. Here in Dodge County, many of our pre-teen youth fall between community programs. Yet this is the age when life altering problems such as obesity, poor self esteem, drugs, alcohol and more affect great numbers of our youth. Building healthy self-esteem, health and well-being habits, knowledge and character development are all tools that can help our youth make positive choices and achieve better health and educational achievement.
Sounds great, right? But there’s a problem - youth want to have fun - they don’t want to go “workout.” With this in mind, we’ve introduced new programming that incorporates a full workout and life-long fitness habits into a fun, interactive, social, gaming workout. Yes, fitness and healthy living education can be fun, and it can replace those gaming controls - at least for a few hours a week!
Since youth wellness begins at home, our Lofting Program is a family based approach in establishing wellness for your preteen or teenage child(ren), and we’ve created a Family Night so that parents can play along one night a week. After all, parents who play with their children aren’t just helping model and train thier kids for life - they are strengthening their family.
In 2010, the Beaver Dam Unified School District and community partners were awarded a PEP Grant focusing on child and youth fitness. Our Y is a proud partner of this grant program, and is excited to announce that through this grant, the program, YOUTH WELLNESS:THE LOFT is entirely FREE to all BDUSD students, and is open to all Dodge County community youth for a nominal fee.
