Child Swim Lessons

Check with the current program guide for lesson schedules and rates.  Registration can be done in person at the front desk or via phone for members with a credit card.

Swim Lesson Levels

Kippers (Kp) Ages 6 months - 3 years
Parent and child are in the water together. Children work on water adjustment and gain physical and social development through games and activities in the pool. Pool safety and basic arm and leg movements are covered. Child should wear a swim diaper.

Perch (Pr) Ages 2-3

Suggested to take Kipper first. Children start moving independently through the water without the parent as well learn how to adjust to class situation.

Pike (Pk) Ages 3-5

Pike is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke, kicking skills and proper use of floatation devices.

Eel (El) Ages 3-5
Eel is an advanced beginner level that reinforces pike skills, for children who are comfortable in the water. They are taught to kick, float, and perform basic paddle strokes. Children can swim 10 yds with floatation device and 5 yds without by the end of this level.

Ray (Ry) Ages 3-5
Children in Ray build endurance by swimming on their front and back 1/2 the length of the pool. They learn to tread water, jump off the blocks and perform basic diving skills.

Starfish (Sf) Ages 3 - 5
Starfish participants refine their strokes and build endurance up to one length of the pool without resting swimming on front and back.

Polliwog (Pl) Ages 6 and up
Polliwog is for beginning school age children. Participants work on water adjustment, use of floatation devices, floating and basic swim strokes. By the end of this level they will know front, side and back stroke and will swim 1length of the pool.

Advanced Polliwog (ADPL) Ages 6 and up
By instructor referral only, required to take Polliwog for referral. This level is for students who have taken polliwog and have mastered all of the basic strokes in basic form. These kids need to work on building endurance to be more confident and consistent and/or need to focus on form.

Guppy (Gp) Ages 6 and up
Children perform all skills without a floatation device. To enter this level they need to swim 1 length of pool comfortably without rest. They will build their endurance up to 3 lengths of the pool with side breathing.

Minnow (Mn) Ages 6 and up

Minnow is the initial intermediate level. Children refine the strokes they have learned, and are introduced to breaststroke and learn more diving. They build their endurance up to 6 lengths of the pool.

Fish (F) Ages 6 and up

Students work to perform the strokes with appropriate turns. They are introduced to butterfly and build their endurance up to 10 lengths.

Flying Fish (FF) Ages 6 and up
Students work on performing butterfly and refining previously learned strokes. They increase their endurance to 14 lengths.

Shark (Shk) Ages 6 and up
Students at this level continue to improve their strokes with starts and turns and are introduced to competetitive swimming rules and form. They build their endurance up to 20 lengths.

Porpoise (Porp) Ages 6 and up
Students build up their endurance to 28 lengths of the pool and work on stroke refinement and building endurance in all strokes. Swimmers are introduced to Junior lifeguarding skills.

Make up Lessons
: If your child can not attend the class they are registered for due to conflict in schedules or illness, they can not make up the class on another day or time. We do our best to maintain student Teacher ratio.

Session IV: Nov. 30-Dec.23 (Registration Deadline: Nov. 29)

Thursday Lessons
1 times per week, 8 week sessions

Session II: Nov 4 - Dec 23 Registration Deadline: Nov. 4

(No class November 25)

 

Saturday Lessons
1 time per week, 8 week sessions

Session I: Sept 11 - Oct 30 Registration Deadline: Sept. 10

Session II: Nov 6 - Dec 25 Registration Deadline: Nov. 5
